10 facts about the Sun Inn

  1. Although often referred to as trestle tables, the smaller table in the red brick bar is in fact an old coffin table.
  2. The first "Mayor" of the Sun Inn in 1994 was Peter Faulkner a local coracle maker.
  3. There have been 18 Mayors to date 5 ladies, 11 men and Hobson the dog.
  4. Former landlady Flossie, known for her sharp tongue and acerbic wit, silenced aggressive TV presenter Jeremy Paxman, referring to him as 'Jimmy Cagney'.
  5. Former landlady Flossie was tea-total.
  6. The Tarlton Fishing Club which uses the Sun as its HQ is named after the infamous Colonel Banastre Tarleton (1754 - 1833) AKA 'The Butcher'or "Black Ban" who distinguished himself in the American War of Independence and lived and is buried in Leintwardine.
  7. The first landlord of the Sun Inn was William Jones, a part-time tailor.
  8. Long before they appeared on a trendy West End restaurant menu Squirrel Suppers were being served in the Sun.
  9. Rook pie evenings have been held in the Sun.
  10. The Sun is in the top 10 most popular pub names. But there is only one Sun Inn Parlour pub.

 

 

Sun on the BBC

The Sun Inn is to appear once again on national television on BBC 1 in the programme "Country Tracks".
Although, filmed in the Sun’s famous Red Brick Bar in March this year, it is hoped that it will also feature unique footage of much loved and sadly missed former landlady Flossie Lane. Pub regular Wayne Smith captured Floss on film during the Annual Beer Festival in August 2007 and kindly donated a copy to the BBC to use in the show.Country Tracks will be shown on Sunday 10th October at 11am.

Sun Band make Finals

Sun Inn regulars Ross and Haydon of the pubs resident band Bridge 32 have made it through to the regional finals of Open Mic UK.

Consent Granted

After what seems like many months of meetings and consultation it was a great surprise and huge relief when Planning permission and listed building consent was granted on 24th May 2010.
